TIPS Ladder Calculator

About this site

tipsyield.com is an independent, one-person publication about Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities: a free ladder calculator, a set of plain-language guides, and a paid primer for people who want the complete treatment.

Why it exists

Pricing a TIPS ladder in 2026 meant choosing between calculators with stale yields, spreadsheets that hid their formulas, and forum threads that assumed you already knew the vocabulary. This site is the tool its author wanted while doing that work: current yields, visible math, and honest handling of the awkward parts, the 2037-2039 gap years and the phantom-income tax included. The calculator is free, needs no login, and sends nothing you type to any server.

Where the numbers come from

Yield presets come from the U.S. Treasury par real yield curve as published in the FRED daily series, with the as-of date shown on the page. Auction results come from TreasuryDirect announcements. Fund figures are computed from dividend-adjusted closing prices and the sponsors' published expense ratios, with a note under each table saying exactly that. Every formula the calculator uses is written out on the page that uses it, because a number you cannot check is a number you should not trust.

Corrections

Anything wrong gets fixed and the fix gets a line in the updates log. If you spot a wrong number, a stale yield, or a claim that mis-states how these securities work, send it through the form below; corrections outrank compliments.

How the site makes money

Two ways, both visible: the $29 primer, and advertising on the free pages. No affiliate links, no sponsored content, no sale of reader data. The site holds no position in any fund it writes about; the securities discussed are U.S. Treasury bonds, which its author, like most people planning retirement, owns.
