TIPS auction calendar

Use the announced auction and issue dates to plan an order. An auction date is when bids are resolved; the issue or settlement date is when the security and funds are exchanged. A brokerage may require your order before Treasury's deadline.

Read the dates in an auction notice. Announcement: Terms published. Auction: Bidding closes. Issue / settlement: Payment is due. Confirm Treasury deadlines and your broker’s earlier cutoff before ordering.

Pattern from TreasuryDirect's TIPS terms. Future dates and offerings can change; an actual announcement takes precedence over a pattern.

A reopening is the same security at a new auction

It shares the existing CUSIP, coupon and maturity. The new auction can clear at a different yield and price. A reopened ten-year issue has less than ten years remaining, so look at the maturity date rather than the original term alone.

Prepare before the cutoff

  1. Read the official announcement for the exact security and terms.
  2. Verify your account's purchase eligibility and available settled cash.
  3. Check whether the ticket uses face amount or a number of bonds.
  4. Understand that a noncompetitive order accepts the eventual auction result.
  5. Record the settlement amount and cash-flow dates after allocation.

See how to buy TIPS for minimums and order considerations. For a ladder, use the maturity schedule to see which years an announced security can serve.

Source and maintenance

The snapshot comes from TreasuryDirect's public securities data. A blank coupon or auction yield means it was not supplied in that snapshot; it is not a zero. The download keeps dates and reported values so you can inspect them.

Treasury has announced forthcoming API field changes. Refreshes validate required fields and retain the prior snapshot if the source becomes incomplete. Always check the observation date before relying on a schedule.
